Walter James Dunn, the youngest child of Emerson Dorance and Nellie Victoria (Chapman) Dunn, was born on the family farm near the village of Stafford, Custer County, Oklahoma on July 11, 1920. He passed from this life on March 22, 2007 at the Georgetown Hospital, Georgetown, Williamson County, Texas and was laid to rest in the City Cemetery at Clinton, Custer County, Oklahoma.

He was married to Wenona Latimer on Oct. 19, 1941 at Sayre, Beckham County, Oklahoma. They made their first home at Clinton, Oklahoma until he volunteered into the U.S. Army Air Corps on Oct. 19, 1942. He served at Randolph Field, San Antonio, TX, Lowry Field, Denver, CO. Tyndall Field, Panama City, FL and finally at Pyote Field, Pecos, TX. After being discharged, he settled with his family again at Clinton, OK.

He was manager of lumber yards in several places in Oklahoma and Texas for about 30 years, then after he and his wife retired to their farm near Foss, Washita County, OK, he worked as a carpenter/painter and raised beef cattle. At the time of his death they were living at Georgetown, TX to be near children. He was a long-time member of the church of Christ, having served as a Bible class teacher, deacon and elder.

A graveside service was led by Jeff Loftiss, of the Burns Flat church of Christ, under the direction of Whinery-Savage Funeral Home of Elk City, OK.

He is survived by his wife, of the home in Georgetown, and three sons: David and wife Barbara, Georgetown, TX, John and wife Grace, Donna, TX and Steve and wife Sandi, Granger, TX; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, four sisters, and an infant son, Kenneth James, in 1946.
