Sister of Mohawk, Ilion Women, Dies
Mohawk -- Mrs. Ann Leon Grass, 66, a Little Falls native and sister of Mrs. Charles Vogel, Mohawk and Mrs. Ralph Edick, Ilion, died Saturday of a heart attack at her home in Deferiet, St Lawrence County. Born March 1,1898 in Little Falls, a daughter of Dennis and Anna Pauth Leon, she was married there on Aug. 25,1917 to Herbert Grass. In 1918 , the couple moved to Deferiet where he was an engineer at the ST. Regis Paper Co. mill until retiring. Mrs. Grass worked in the Deferiet store from 1928 to 1948 and was an active bowler, recently participating in a tournament in Jamestown. She was a member of St. Rita's Church Deferiet. Her husband survives; a son Herbert, Jr. Syracuse; a daughter, Mrs Charles Van Auken, Spring Valley; another sister, Mrs. Ruth Huss, Jacksonville, Fla; a brother ;Frank Leon, South Bethlehem; Three grandchildren.
Services were conducted today from her home and St. Rita's Church. Burial will be in Armory Hill Cemetery, Ilion.

Deferiet, June 15-Mrs. Anna Belle Leon Grass, 66, wife of Herbert L. grass, died unexpectedly at 12:40 p.m. Saturday at her home, 19 Wilna Avenue, of a heart attack. She had been in her usual health and had been painting a room during the morning.
The body was taken from the Clark funeral home, Black river, Sunday afternoon to the family home where friends may call today.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. at the family home and 9 in St. Rita's church, with Rev. Francis Ruddy, pastor officiating. Burial will be in Armory Hill cemetery, Ilion.
Surviving besides her husband, are a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Anna) VanAuken, Spring Valley: a son, Herbert H., North Syracuse: three sisters Mrs. Charles (Gertrude) Vogel, Mohawk; Mrs. Ralph (Marion) Edick, Ilion; and Mrs. Ruth Huss, Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Frank Leon, South Bethlehem; and three grandchildren.
Mrs. Grass was born March 1, 1898 in Little Falls, a daughter of Dennis and Anna Pauth Leon. She was married in the rectory of the cathedral in Little Falls on Aug. 25, 1917, to Herbert Grass.
The couple moved to Deferiet in 1918 and had lived here since. Mr. grass was an engineer at the St. Regis Paper company mill here until his retirement. He has been known for years for his hobby of making violins.
Mrs. Grass worked in the Deferiet store from 1928 to 1946. She was an active bowler in the Co-ed league and participated in the recent tournament in Jamestown. She was a member of St. Rita's church.
