Thomas F. Cain Dies at Home in Madison
Thomas F. Cain [sic, believed to be Thomas Edward Cain], long proprietor of the Madison Hotel in Madison, died Friday in his apartment in the hotel. He had long been a prominent figure in Madison, was village president for 22 years. He organized the village fire department in 1911 and was chief until 1949. He was also father of the village water system, and a former member of the Board of Education. He had long been a leading figure in Democratic circles in the county. For many years he was a breeder and trainer of race horses and deeply interested in horse racing. He was captain of the Madison Anti-Larceny society, a group organized in 1854, to combate[sic] horse thefts. The organization has been inactive several years now.

Mr. Cain was born in Waterville, Oct. 16, 1871, a son of Thomas and Anstaian [sic, Anastasia] Cain. He was proprietor of the Northern Hotel in Utica before locating in Madison. He married Catherine Noon in 1898 and she died in 1930. Surviving are a son, Thomas Cain of Madison; five sisters, Misses Mary and Catherine Cain, Mrs. Anna Rogers, Mrs. Alice Helmer, Mrs. Winifred Noon, all of Utica. Final rites were from St. Joseph's Church, Waterville, Monday morning, with burial in Waterville cemetery.
