Veep's sister, dies
Mrs. Bernice B. Thielman, sister of former Vice President Alben W. Barkley, died at 10 a.m. Saturday at her residence, Apt. 15 Thomas Jefferson Place.
The widow of William H. Thielman, she was a member of Grace Episcopal Church. Mrs. Thielman was 81.
She was a native of Paducah, having been born here after the Barkley family moved from Graves County where the late vice president and U.S. senator was born.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Doris Thieleman, widow of her son William H. Thieleman Jr.; two grandsons, Hank Thieleman, Paducah, and Paducah Sun photographer Barkley Thieleman; two granddaughters, Sarah Atherton, Ledbetter, and Suzanne Obert, Minonk, Ill.; four great-grandsons and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Roth Funeral Home with the Rev. Perry Burton officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gary Atherton, Phillip Shankle, Randy Shankle, Hank Thieleman and Barkley Thieleman.
Friends may call afternoon today at Roth Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
