Zachary Taylor Terry was the son of John Thomas Terry and Julia Brooks. He was born 13 May 1847 in Chambers County, Alabama. Zachary was still a teenager when the War Between the States began in 1861, so he waited until he was of age to join the Confederate cause. He followed his brothers into the conflict to defend his homeland. On 17 June 1864, he enlisted in the Confederate Cavalry in Meridian, Mississippi. He served in Company A, Moses' Squadron, Alabama Cavalry and later in the 8th. Regiment, Alabama Cavalry. At some point in his life before 1880, he moved to Shelby County, Tennessee. He was married there to Julia Frances "Kitty" Jones on 14 April 1880. Julia was born in July 1862. Zachary Taylor Terry died in Millington, Shelby County, Tennessee some time after 1900. One known child of Zachary T. Terry was Lawrence H. Terry.
