Thomas Terry was born 30 December 1830 in Cowetta County, Georgia. He was the son of John Thomas Terry and Julia Brooks. On 29 November 1859 in Troup County, Georgia, Thomas married Nancy E. Winn, daughter of Asa Winn and Sarah Brooks. Nancy Winn Terry was born 7 October 1843 in Greene County, Georgia, and she died 22 May 1903 in Troup County, Georgia.
When Thomas's brothers, Williamson H. and George W. died while in service in 1861, Thomas obtained permission to travel to Virginia and bring their bodies back to Troup County, Georgia for burial.
Thomas Terry enlisted in the Confederate Army on 6 May 1862 in LaGrange, Georgia. He was assigned to Company C, 14th. Battalion, Ferrell's Battery, Georgia Light Artillery, also known as Montgomery's Battalion.
Thomas Terry died 8 June 1895 in Chambers County, Alabama. Thomas and Nancy Terry are buried in Freeman Cemetery (also known as Terry Cemetery) in Troup County, Georgia.
