On 9 Jul 1861, in LaGrange, Troup County, Georgia, John T. Terry enlisted in the Confederate Army. He was assigned to Company F, 21st Georgia Infantry, where he attained the rank of Sergeant. On 6 Apr 1865, he was captured by the enemy at High Bridge near Farmville, Virginia. He was released from duty at Newport News, Virginia on 26 Jun 1865.
