Roy was born on May 16, 1902. He married to Katherine Slingwein on May 16, 1925 in Detroit Michigan. His wife preceded him in death on September 27, 1975.

He worked at Chrysler Corp as a supervisor and retired in 1965. Roy was a Mason, a Lutheran. a lifetime member of Lake Orion Lodge NO. 46, and member of the United Auto Workers Union.

Survivors include a son, Roy Edward Janke Jr., three sisters Frances Wilshire, Agnes Harris, Oden Erwin, and two grandchildren.
