Martha was the youngest daughter of Geo. Wm. Boyd and Eliza Vail Markee, and was named partly for her aunt, Martha Boyd Niblock. She was born in a log house built in 1814 by her mother's maternal uncles. Martha married at home in Scio in 1904 to Charles Fisher Carruthers, the officiant being her cousin's husband, the Rev. Will Stewart. Martha and Charlie had one daughter, stillborn, in 1910. They lived on a small farm between Stillwater and Tippecanoe until about 1920 when they moved to Uhrichsville. Martha was riddled with arthritis and had mobility issues for many years, yet she always remained cheery and positive. She died at the Uhrichsville house, and was the last of her siblings. She was beloved in the family.
