Annie was born in a log house built by her mother's maternal uncles in 1814. She was the third daughter and fifth child of Geo. Wm. Boyd and Eliza Vail Markee. She was married at home at Tippecanoe in 1890 to Samuel Frank Groves, the service officiated by her brother-in-law, the Rev. Albert M. Billingsley. Annie was the mother of Nellie and Eugene, and died of uterine cancer at her farm home between Tippecanoe and Stillwater. Immediately after she died, her church lady friends came out of her bedroom saying, "She was healed."
