Sterling Monroe "Tony" Bair, 90, of Westminster, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at Carroll Hospice's Dove House.

Born Jan. 18, 1920, in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Mamie Barnes Bair and Howard Lee Bair Sr.

He was the husband of M. Virginia Bair, his wife of 67 years, who died March 28, 2009.

He worked 40 years as a machinist and retired from Westinghouse. He was a member of Westminster United Methodist Church and enjoyed baseball, the Orioles, farming as a young boy and talking about the good old days.

Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law Georgia L. and Russell E. Groomes, of Uniontown, and Donna B. and Jeffrey E. Eisenhart, of Hanover, Pa.; grandchildren LeeAnne Groomes, of Uniontown, and Russell E. Groomes II and wife Jenelle, of Hanover; a great-grandson, Bradley Sterling Groomes of Hanover; a brother, Melvin Bair Sr., of Westminster; sisters Aileen Barnhart and Janet Miller, both of Westminster; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by sisters Julia Wagner, Evelyn Haines, and Beatrice, Carrie and Betty Fleming; and brothers George N. "Bud" Bair and Howard L. Bair Jr.

Interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Finksburg.
