John was the son of William Christian Anderson and Margret Catherine Scherer Anderson. John's father and his uncles had built the farm house and all of the out buildings. He grew up on the farm where he was born and after the death of his father, he helped his mother and his Uncle Oscar take care of the "Home Place".
