Agnes was the daughter of William Christian and Margret Catherine (Scherer) Anderson. She graduated from Southern State Normal School with a Degree in teaching and went on to earn her Master's of Education at the University of South Dakota. She taught a total of 44 years.
She married Edward Ortmayer August 1, 1954. They lived in Aurora, Colorado. She had two step-children, Carol K. and Richard Ortmayer of whom she was very fond. Carol was always a major part of her life. She and Ed were divorced in 1977. Agnes returned to Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she lived until her death.
Burial was in Elm Grove Cemetery.
