STONE QUARRY MEN HURT IN EXPLOSION

Three young men, all residents of McKee and employed at the Jesse L. Hartman stone quarries at Rodman, near Roaring Spring, were injured this morning at 11.20 o'clock when one of the trio accidentally struck a stick of dynamite with a pick preparatory to placing a shot in the quarries.

The injured men include:

William Dibert, aged 19, severe contusions of the left groin and possible internal injuries.

James Shaw, aged 27, lacerations and contusions of the face, head and arms.

John Shaw, aged 19, deep lacerations of face and hands.

All three were removed to the Nason hospital in Roaring Spring for treatment. Homer Steele, also of McKee, who was standing near the three men at the time of the explosion, was knocked to the ground by the force of the dynamite but escaped any injury outside of shock.

Dibert was handling the pick and with his other two companions was preparing to put off a shot at the quarries. In some manner his pick slipped and struck the dynamite, the explosive being set off by the force of the blow. The pick was knocked against Dibert causing severe contusions of the man's body.
