Obituary in The State, Columbia, SC, 31 Jan 2000: Gilbert - Services for Irene Shealy Leaphart, 93, of 536 Red Haven Rd., will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church, Old Cherokee Rd. at Fox Glenn, with the Revs. Jeff Kersey, Harry Wright, and Colin Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Julia Rogers SS class. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church's Pew Fund, P.O. Box 131, Lexington, SC 29071. Visitation will be 6-8:30 tonight at Barr-Price Fuenral home, 609 Northwood Rd., Lexington. Mrs. Leaphart, widow of J. Earley Leaphart, died Sunday, January 31, 2000. Born in Lexington County, she was a daughter of the late L. Mitchell and Shalldonia Bundrick Shealy. She was a member of Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Women's Society of Christian Service, and was a housewife. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald O. Sr. and Shirley Leaphart, Wyman A. Sr. and Edith Leaphart, Bivens G. Sr. and Jackie Leaphart, all of Gilbert; daughters and sons-in-law, Eleanor 'Wiggie' and Phillip Wessinger, N.W. Hancock, all of Lexington, Nancy and Melvin Hayes, Myrna Leaphart, all of Gilbert; 18 grandchildren; 21great-grandchildren; brother, Ambrose Shealy; sisters, Eva Gates, Evelyn Harmon, all of Lexington; brother-in-law, Belton Clamp of Leesville; special niece and caregiven, Velma W. Lorick. She was predeceased by her daughter, Aileen Hancock.
