RIPLEY - Lena Kathleen "Kitty" Burchard, 75, of Ripley, died July 20, 2002, at Eldercare of Ripley, WV.

She was born July 20, 1927, in Jackson County, daughter of the late Pearl and Almeda Conger Sheppard. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and a charter member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ripley.

She is survived by her husband, C. J. (John) Burchard of Ripley; daughter, Kathie King (son-in-law Tim) of Ripley; brothers, Brooks Sheppard of Ravenswood and Harlan Sheppard of Parkersburg; sisters, Freda Hudson of Evans, Beulah Whaley of Cinncinati, OH, Opal Elizabeth Detty of Chillicothe, OH, and Nina Ruth Pursley of Sandyville; grandchildren, Erin and Adam King, both of WVU in Morgantown and Allyn King of Ripley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra Ellen; one son, John Alan; and a brother, Dale Sheppard.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Ripley with burial in Jackson Memory Gardens of Cottageville, WV.

Presbyterian Church located at 210 Cedar Lakes Drive, Ripley, WV 25271.
