Walter Cox Powell, age 83, passed quietly away to his heavenly home, following a gallant battle with a long illness, August 10, 1996.

Born October 27, 1912 in Coalville, Utah to Parley A. Powell and Olive Mary Cox.

He graduated from Coalville High School and later went to Utah State Agricultural College.

He filled an honorable mission for the LDS Church in the Northern States.

He proudly served three years in the U.S. Army during World War II. He returned home and married Gladys Hawkins, September 4, 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were friends and companions for over 50 years and fell short of their Golden Wedding Anniversary by just 25 days.

He was a sheet metal worker for many years and at the time of his retirement, was working at the U of U Physical Plant Operations.

He held numerous church callings throughout his life-even during his illness.

Survivors: wife, Gladys; children, Kate Olson, Murray, Utah; Walter "Tim" Powell, Antioch, California; and Mark Powell, DVM, Kersey, Colorado; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; five brothers, one sister, Salt Lake City.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 15, 1996, 12 noon, at Monument Park 7th-8th Wards, 1794 South Texas Street (2430 East), where friends may call one hour prior to services.

A viewing will also be held Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Colonial Mortuary, 2128 So. State St.

Interment: Memorial Estates, 6500 So. Redwood Rd.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to all whose care and concern made life much easier for Walt and Gladys.
