Calvin Cox Powell 1922 ~ 2010

Calvin Cox Powell passed away at his home on November 21, 2010 from causes incident to age.

He lived life to the fullest, overcoming many trials through his courage, wit, and personal fortitude. He accomplished much through hard work and his untiring energy.

He had a sharp mind and a keen memory, often entertaining friends and family with stories, jokes, and folk songs.

He was born April 23, 1922 in Coalville, Utah, to Olive Cox and Parley Powell.

He was married to Ann Evans on January 12, 1943 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Ann preceded him in death on October 8, 1968.

He later met and married Vivian Parsons Apgood on January 26, 1970.

Vivian passed away on January 23, 2004.

Calvin served his country honorably in World War II, earning his Purple Heart when he was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge.

He graduated from the Agriculture College in Logan, Utah in 1947.

Later, he became a general contractor and with his sons built homes throughout Utah for over four decades, completing his last house at age 75. He also served as the Building Inspector for Highland, Utah for several years.

Calvin was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints and held many positions including Sunday School President, Elders Quorum President, High Priests Group Leader, and temple worker in the Mount Timpanogos Temple.

Calvin's greatest joy was found in serving his large family.

He leaves behind a wonderful example of service and a legacy of love to his posterity.

He is survived by his children, Deborah Sorensen (Stafford), Gerald Powell (Sherry), Kim Powell (Jenise), Christine Sternekert (Al), Bradley Powell (Karen), and step children Paula Strasberg (Lou), Alison Griffiths (Floyd), Sandra Rich (Ralph), Alisa Shelley (Mike), Elden Apgood and 47 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Donald C. Powell (Marilyn).

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Highland 9th LDS Ward Chapel, 11162 North Alpine Highway, Highland, Utah.

Family and friends may call Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Warenski Funeral Home, 1776 North 900 East, American Fork, Utah and at an additional viewing at the church on Saturday morning from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services.

Interment will be at Bountiful Memorial Park at 2224 South 200 West, Bountiful, Utah.
