Parnell was born in Coalville, Summit County on June 23, 1929 to Parley A. Powell and Olive Mary Cox. He was a twin and the youngest child of ten. He was raised on a farm and learned the value of hard work at an early age. When the family moved to Salt Lake City, he graduated from South High School.
He married Violet Rachel Bowen on January 25, 1958 and was later sealed to her and their children in the Salt Lake Temple on August 7, 1968. He was preceded in death by his parents and all his brothers and sisters, including two sons, Terry Powell and Stephen Powell. He is survived by his sweet wife, Violet; and children, S. John Powell (Connie), Lee Powell (Sheila), daughter-in-law, Karin Powell (Terry), Kevin Powell (Kelley), and Bruce Powell. He’s been blessed with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Parnell enjoyed dancing, singing, bowling, water skiing, and basketball. He also enjoyed camping in RV’s and owned and operated a small RV company in Midvale.
Funeral services will be held on Friday July 26, 2019 in the Taylorsville Third Ward Chapel, 1457 West Atherton Drive (4340 South), Taylorsville. A viewing will be held at 9:00 a.m. and funeral services will start at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy.
