Elizabeth Gibson Underwood was called 'Lizzie' and has several namesakes including a daughter, grand-daughter and a great-great-grand-daughter. It is believed that her middle name may have been Bush but it has not been proven, except as known in her family. One prevalent thought is that when young children pronounced Elizabeth, they said "Lizzie Bush" and so it became her nickname.

Lizzie moved to Texas after her father Henry Calvin Gibson died in 1891 in Tennessee. Lizzie came and lived with her sister Elizabeth 'Bettie' Ann Gibson Boyd in Red River Co., TX. It is not exactly known, how much education Lizzie obtained, but she was a teacher when she first met and married W.R. Underwood. She had fourteen children, five boys and nine girls. Her first born were twins, a boy and a girl, who both unfortunately died after a few days.

Lizzie resided, died and was buried in the Arden Cemetery, in the Arden Community, Irion Co., TX., when she was removed and reinterred in Fairmount Cemetery, San Angelo, TX., by son-in-law W.L. Pringle, 5 Dec 1947, with her husband and her two young sons, Jesse Henry, age 7 and Robert Andrew age 2.
