Neva Mae was the eleventh child and seventh daughter of William Robert Underwood and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Bush Gibson. She married Earl Brooks on Oct 15, 1932 Carlsbad, New Mexico. They were happily married for forty-seven years and had no children.

The oil industry was in its infancy and men were chasing the 'black gold'. The Underwood boys and several of the Brooks boys found work in the oil fields of New Mexico, where a handsome Earl Brooks courted a beautiful young widow, Mrs. Geneva Underwood Green.

When, one of the largest West Texas wildcat wells, the Santa Rita blew in, Neva & Brooks moved to Texon in Reagan Co., TX. Texon was a 'Boom Town' of over 1,200 people with all the amities of the eastern cities.

Soon, Brooks was a field supervisor and oil executive and Neva became a society lady with the Order of the Eastern Star, the Rebekah's, bridge club and was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Aunt Neva had a niece, who was left with five young children, when her husband was killed. Cousin Bobby age one, was taken in for a year and a half by Aunt Neva & Uncle Brooks. They dressed him in fine clothes and made quite an attachment with him, wanting to adopt him. Unfortunately, Aunt Doris would not consent to his adoption.

Upon retirement, Aunt Neva became an avid family genealogist traveling into many states searching for relatives and building her family tree.
