DEATH'S HARVEST
Mrs. Anna Mary Bergman passed away on Tuesday following a long illness that was attended with suffering that was of such severe character as to put to the test her christian fortitude. But in the midst of all of these severe trials she looked forward to the future and reposed unfaltering trust in Him Who she believed has ordered that those who believe in Him shall not be forsaken, even in the days of greatest tribulation.
Mrs. Bergman had been a s sufferer with a cancerous disease that had its origin about two years ago and no living person is perhaps able to understand with what a degree of feverency she welcomed the approach of the messenger who carried the summons to her to depart from a wold where she must thusly be burdened. For many months, while the disease prevailed on her body, she retained a sufficient amount of strength to be able to walk about their home, but the beginning of the end came about two weeks ago when she finally gave up to retire the the sick chamber.
The decedent's maiden name was Miss Anna Mary Evers and she spent her girldhood days at St. Rosa, which place was the home of her parents. Her age was 66 years and 7 days and a large part of this allotted time was spent as the wife of Stephen Bergman, to whom she was married in her young womanhood. The husband survives her and also do the following other members of their immediate family: Seven sons, Henry, Frank, John, George, Joseph, Lawrence, and August; two daughters Mary Bergman and Mrs. Rosa Bergman Meiring: Daughters-in-law Elisabeth (Puthoff), Bernadine (Knouffer), Rosa, Katherine, Frances (Leugers) and Emma Bergman; son-in-law William Meiering; besides twenty-nine grandchildren and some sisters and brothers.
Soon after the marriage of Mr. Bergman and Miss Everes they established a home on a farm south of Maria Stein, where they lived for several years, but when the health of the wife and mother began to fail they disposed of the property and purchased the former Fleck home, which is located just west of the Catholic church in that hamlet. It was at that place that the family was living at the time of the death of Mrs. Bergman.
Euloigstic paragraphs fail to express the community worth of a quiet, unostentationes woman like Mrs. Bergman. Fortunately, these qualities do not seem to be hereditary. She occupied a place of importance among those of er near kin and she had her specific duties in the religious and social life.
