ALGOOD – Funeral services for Vela Belle Cowan, 82, of 173 Mill St. in Algood were conducted Tuesday, Dec. 16, 1986 from the Chapel of Whitson Funeral Home with Bro. Paul Wilmoth officiating. Burial was in the Cookeville City Cemetery. Mrs. Cowan died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1986.
A native of Putnam County, she was born June 29, 1904 to the late Julius and Virginia Leftwich Carr. She was a member of the Algood Church of Christ and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Knox Lee Cowan, in 1973.
Survivors include three daughters, Thelma Lee Palk of Algood, Mary F. Flatt of Cookeville and Nora Ann Pullum of Warren, MI; three sons, Willie H. "Bud" Cowan and Knox Cowan, Jr. of Cookeville and Alfred Cowan of Warren, MI; two sistrers, Martha Prichard and Anna Dee Lowe of Silver Point; three brothers, Kenneth Carr of Fortville, IN, Louis Carr of Baxter and Troy Carr of Silver Point; sixteen grandhchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
