FREDERICK H. ALLEN

Frederick H. Allen, whom many of our older readers will remember, passed away of a heart attack on July 11 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Roland R. Taylor, in San Francisco, Calif., where he and his wife had spent the past two winters.

He was the son of Tandy and Joanna Allen, who were among the early settlers of Cedar Township, where he was born in 1866 and grew to manhood.

After a course in business college he spent two years as clerk in a Chariton dry goods store.

On October 10, 1894, he was married to Jessie Elliott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Elliott of Russell and they went at once to Cozad, Nebraska, where he was associated for some time with his brother Charles in a general mercantile business. A few years later he opened a furniture store in Tobias, Neb., where he spent the greater part of his life.

In their later years, they made their home on a farm at Raymond, Nebraska.

In early life he united with the Presbyterian Church at LaGrange, Iowa and on removal transferred his membership to Tobias and Raymond.

Besides his wife and only daughter, he is survived by three sons, Elliott E. of Casper, Wyo., Frederick H. of Ithaca, New York, and Theodore, who has only recently returned from overseas service in France. Two grandsons and two granddaughters also survive.

Funeral services and burial took place in San Francisco on July 13 and were conducted by Dr. Ezra A. Van Nuys, pastor of Calvary Presbyterian Church in that city.

Husband of Jessie Elliott. Son of Tandy Allen and Joanna Smith Van Nice.
