DEATH OF T. CLAY ALLEN
T. Clay Allen, well known resident of the vicinity of Russell, died at his home on Monday morning, December 15, 1930, at two o'clock, after an illness of about two weeks, although he had been in failing health for some time. His demise was due to a tumor on the brain, and paralysis developed the first of last week.
Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Peter Bok, of Earlham, assisted by Rev. Russell, were held at the Presbyterian church in Russell on Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Chariton cemetery.
T. Clay Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tandy Allen, was born near LaGrange, Iowa, on October 5, 1876. His age at the time of his demise was 54 years, 2 months and 10 days.
For a time he resided during young manhood in Chariton with his parents, and was married here to Miss Nellie Gasser, who survives him. His parents, one sister, Mrs. J. C. Cassity, and one brother, Henry S. Allen, preceded him in death. Five sisters and four brothers are living. They are Miss Carrie E. Allen, Mrs. Sam Goltry, Mrs. W. J. Prather, Mrs. Lon Johnson and Aylmer J. Allen, of Russell; Chas. Allen of Cozad, Nebraska; Fred Allen of Raymond, Nebraska; Mrs. Gertrude Wortman of Malvern, Iowa; Dr. Lloyd Allen of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Clay Allen was a man of jovial disposition, with a kind word for all, and his friends were many. For several years he was engaged in the real estate and insurance business in Russell, but for the past few years has resided on a farm a few miles east of that place. His demise is greatly deplored by all who knew him, and the sympathy of the entire community is extended to the grief stricken wife, brothers and sisters and other relatives who survive.
