Darrel B. Gardner, 81, died Monday, February 3, 1997 at the Davis North Medical Center of complications following a stroke.

Funeral services were held Feb 5, 1997 in Clearfield, UT. Interment Syracuse City Cemetery.

He married Beatrice Washburn on July 31, 1940. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, June 11, 1942. They lived and enjoyed 57 years together.

After graduating from Star Valley High school and lettering in football, basketball, track, wrestling and boxing, he attended Utah State University.

He owned a farm in Star Valley and then moved to Clearfield, UT in 1950, where he and his brothers owned and operated Big Vern's gas station. He also ran a farm in Syracuse, UT and was a member of the Weber State football, chain crew.

He was an active member of the West Point second ward where he was a High Priest. He served as Priest Advisor, President of the Young Men's Mutual, president of the Sunday School, Scout Master, Stake Missionary and served as one of the seven presidents of Seventies, and as a home teacher for 55 years.

He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and ball games. He supported his family in all of their activities. He unique sense of humor and devotion to all will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Beatrice; two sons and three daughters, Linda Schofield, Syracuse; Mike Gardner, Kaysville; Patricia Poll, South Weber; Mark Gardner, San Jose, CA; and Darrelyn Bybee of Roy; his is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Also four sisters, Dorothy Cleghorn, Camora Miles, Maxine Van Brocklin and Genevieve Bullard.

He was preceded in death by one son Eddie, one granddaughter Jennifer Lynn, four brothers, Delos, Lincoln, Kenneth and Vern and three sisters Allie Hyde, Marguarite Kenopniki and Elna Mallory.
