John Thomas Shannon, oldest son of Harvey and Sarah Shannon was born near Burlington, Kansas, April 12, 1879 and passed away at his home in the west part of Burlington July 19, 1953 at 6 a.m., after an illness of more than a year. He was 74 years, three months and seven days at the time of his death.

In October, 1952 he underwent a serious operation in St. Elizabeth hospital in Hutchinson and never fully recovered. He was a patient sufferer and never complained.

John with his two brothers, Roy and Harry, farmed the Shannon farm four miles northwest of LeRoy for several years. in 1948 he, with his two brothers and a sister, Mary Shannon, moved to Burlington where he lived until his death.

John was of a quiet disposition, never bothering others with his troubles. He was a hard worker until his health began to fail.

He joined the Christian church when a young man and always tried to live a Christian life. He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge in LeRoy for several years.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, a brother, Bert Shannon and two sisters, Pearl and Ella. He leaves to mourn his passing: three brothers, Tom Shannon, Parsons, Kans., Roy Shannon and Harry Shannon of the home and three sisters: Icy Mozingo, Parsons; Flora Decker, Burlington and Mary Shannon of the home; an aunt, Mrs. Addie Mize, Yates Center; and an uncle, Nelse Slane, Burlington; several nieces, nephews and cousins and a host of friends also survive.
