Elmer L. Valentine was born in Chillicothe, Ohio on 20 October 1879 to Esther Lippencott and William Valentine. Esther died just three months later on the 4th of January 1880, of pneumonia. Elmer had two older sisers, Amy and Mary. He also had an older brother, Charles and an older brother William that passed away at just 2 1/2 weeks of age. His father remarried Lucille Peaches Bontrager in 1880. Elmer served in the Spanish-Americann War, following which he was an invalid or at least not a man of robust health for the remainder of his life. He married Kate (Katie) Alma Near in 1904, when he was 25. Elmer was working as miller. They welecomed a son, Willard in 1905, another son, Lyle in 1907, a daughter, Elizabeth Ellen in 1910 and son Glenn in 1913. Elmer worked as a miller in a flour mill in 1910, owned his own home at 286 Park Street. At 41 years of age, he worked as a miller at a standard military company and owned his own home at 348 Church Street, Chillicothe, Ohio. He was married to Katie for 37 years. He passed away on the 25th of March 1941 due to heart disease.
