William Henry Valentine was born in Estville, Champaign County, Ohio, to Archibald Washington Valentine and Mary Valentine. He married Esther Lippencott on November 6, 1868 in Logan, Ohio. They had five children, one of whom (William) passed away at 2-1/2 weeks of age. Their four other children are Mary, Charles, Amie and Elmer. Esther passed away from pneumonia in 1880 just five months after giving birth to Elmer. William remarried Lucille Peaches Bontrager ten months later on November 14, 1880 and they were married for 30 years.
