James Frank was the third child of six and the first son born to Bohemian immigrants Frantisek (Frank) Stochl and Katharina Brosh. His siblings: Anna, Mary, Frances, Barbara and Joseph (died young).

He was married to Anna Moel daughter of Charles, Sr. and Anna (Ilick) Moel on May 10, 1888 and they had 12 children.

James was a successful farmer, rancher and property owner. He was in a band called the Krob Band for many years, playing the trumpet from the time he was a teenager.

At the time of his death, he had nine grandchildren.
