Jimmie was the eighth child (of twelve) and fifth son born to James Frank and Anna Moel Stochl. He was born with an unknown birth defect. He was cared for at home till somewhere between the ages of 2 and 4 when he was institutionalized at the (originally named) Iowa Institution for Feeble-Minded Children, (now called the Glenwood Resource Center). He could not read or write and reportedly could not walk. He lived his life in the institution where he died when he was 65. He is buried near his parents in St. Mary's cemetery.
