Cab was a farmer and at times worked with both his older brother John and his younger brother Cy on their respective farms.
On September 28, 1964, Cab married his sister-in-law, Emily Novy who was the widow of his brother, Cy who had died in 1958. They married in nearby Mount Vernon, Iowa.
*This family was very fond of nicknames. Almost all the children had one. The family story is that Cab was so named because as a baby, he had a very round head reminiscent of head of cabbage.
