Nellie Sprouse Davis Nellie Sprouse Davis, 90, of Free Union, passed away on Wednesday, August 27, 2014. Born on March 1, 1924, and raised in Free Union, she was the youngest of 11 children, daughter of the late John M. and Cora Thomas Sprouse. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; and a daughter, Sally D. Howard. She married Jasper P. Davis Sr. in 1942, and was retired from Morton's Frozen Foods after 17 years of service. Mrs. Davis was an avid gardener of both flowers and vegetables. She is survived by her five daughters, Ida Defibaugh and her husband, Jerry, Betty Jarrell, Ruby Kennedy and her husband, Tom, Sue Cassell and her husband, Larry, and Mary Huffman and her husband, Kenny; two sons, Jasper P. Davis Jr. and his wife, Diana, and Charles Davis and his wife, Debi; a son-in-law, Brad Howard; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren. Mom had a very special friend that she accepted as a daughter, Marjorie V. Shifflett and her many neighbors and friends at the Our Lady of Angels Monastery, especially Sister Mary David. A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 30, 2014, in the Teague Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverends Pat and Dorothy Mellott officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2014, at the Teague Funeral Home. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Western Albemarle Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 188, Crozet, VA 22932. Friends may sign a guest register at teaguefuneralhome.com.
