1999 - Obituary - Charlottesville, Virginia "The Daily Progress" - July 23, 1999 - Ellis Sprouse of Crozet died at home on Beaver Hill Farm on July 22, 1999, after a short illness. He spent his life in Albemarle County on the farms that he loved. He developed and controlled his farm operations of beef cattle and maintained over 100 acres until his recent illness. In addition to his farm career, he developed with his wife the Beaver Hill Mobile Estate which has received commendation for its management and quality of living. His first allegiance was always to his farm, "Beaver Hill," where he raised cattle. He was a steward of the land and took great pleasure in his fields, his home, and his family, until his illness. Besides his loving family, especially close to his head were the good times he spent with his farm "buddies" at the Albemarle Livestock Market. Born at Free Union in 1913, he was the son of the late John M. Sprouse and Cora Lee Thomas Sprouse. He is survived by his wite of 61 years, Irene Sprouse; a son, Clay Sprouse and his wife, Nancy, of Crozet; two daughters, Gaye Gawa and her husband, John, of Easton, Pa, and Beth Ergenbright and her husband, Richard, of Crozet; four grandchildren, Deena Seay of Atlanta, Wendell Seay of Springfield, Jeffrey S. Sprouse and his wife, Michelle, of Greenwood and Chuck Ergenbright of Crozet; four great-grandchildren. Ashley Seay, Hunter Loose, and Lauren and Logan Sprouse; two sisters, Ruby Baldwin of Richmond and Nellie Davis of Free Union; and one brother, Lewis Sprouse and his wife, Bernice, of Richmond. He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Jacqueline Sprouse; and an infant great-grandson, Ryan Jeffrey Sprouse; three brothers, Richard E., Charlie M., and Johnnie M. Sprouse; four sisters, Frances Shiflet, Angnes Ward-Lipes, Blanche Garrison, and an infant, Minnie Sprouse. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in the league Chapel with the Rev.
