Merle attended two different country schools, before moving into Fairmont with her family.
She graduated from Fairmont High School in 1927.
She worked for the Lincoln Telephone Company as a telephone operator for a number of years.
During this time, she bought and managed a "Sandwich Shop." It was located with a filling station at the corner where the post office in now located.
Merle was married to Harley D. Mitchell on June 15, 1935, and to them two sons, Merlin and Larry were born.
Merle was active in her church and neighborhood clubs in Lincoln.
Foer several years she worked in the cafeteria at the Wesleyan College.
She was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and a sister.
She is survived by her husband, Harley of Lincoln; sons, Merlin and wife Myrna of Chino, Cal. and Larry and wife, Phyllis, of Lincoln; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Gertrude McClellan, Charlotte Bridgman, both of Fairmont, Dorothy Albro of Bremerton, Wa., and Margaret Bringer of Palmyra, Mo.; brothers, Francis Albro and Robert Albro both of Bremerton, Wa.; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the Fourth Presbyterian Church in Lincoln on Tuesday, September 29, with the Rev. James P. Cooke officiating.
Pallbearers were Jeff Mitchell, Dan Mitchell, Jim Koehn, Lanny Ackerman, Alan Culver and Roger Gibson.
Interment was in the Fairmont Public Cemetery.
