at the age of 16 years, along with his father Peter Salmond, mother Jane (Smith) Salmond and his cousin Robert Paul age 7 years. April 19, they arrived in Minnesota to a homestead north of Parker's Prairie, Elmo Twp., Otter Tail County. In Dec. 1878, he married a neighbour girl, Lydia Hennager. They raised 12 children together. Between 1895 and 1900, they moved to Badger, Roseau County in northern Minnesota where Peter farmed and also drove Stage Coach on the Greenbush run. Their sons were all growing up and looking for opportunities in farming, so, in 1912, the family moved north to Verndale Saskatchewan, north of Humboldt. Peter died Aug. 1921 and is buried at the Verndale Lutheran Cemetery--Land location NE34-40--22-2. Lydia remained in the family home at Verndale for a number of years before moving about 1935 with family to High Tor, Sask.
