Samuel P Best, was born 25 Feb 1829, in Blount County, Tennessee. He was the son of John Best and Esther McGaughy. Samuel was the grandson of Daniel Best and Mary Katherine Rhodes. We don't know much about his childhood.

Samuel married Elizabeth Ann Clines on 26 Dec 1850. Elizabeth was twenty- three and Samuel was almost twenty-one. There were eight children born to this union.

Five of these children died before they were eleven. Three of them died in September 1862. There must have been some illness that was widespread.

On 20 September 1864, Samuel P Best, joined Company "H", Third Tennessee Mounted Infantry at Madisonville, Tennessee. It was a hundred day enlistment. Samuel was thirty-five years old at the time. He appears on Company "H" muster out roll on 23 December 1864.

Samuel was by occupation a farmer. He was sixty-nine years old when he died on 4 Jun 1898, in Blount County, Tennessee. He was buried in Williamson's Chapel Cemetery, in Blount County.

Elizabeth (Clines) Best, died on 31 Aug 1915. She was eighty-seven years old.
Elizabeth is also buried at Williamson's Chapel Cemetery.
