Moved from Lincoln County, NC to Blount County, TN around 1828. Settled in the area now known as Carpenter's Campground.

∼John Best "Colonel" was born 15 April 1798, Lincoln North Carolina, he passed away 16 Aug 1870, Wellsville, Blount, Tennessee.

He was married to Esther McGaughy 12 Dec 1818, she was born 1799 and passed away 1830. To this union were born:

Mary Ann, Katherine, Caroline, Samuel, James Madison Best.

He married Elizabeth Anderson, 25 Nov 1830, she was born 1808 and she passed away 1880. To this union were born:

Susannah, Nancy Jane, Henry M, Isaac, George Miffin Dallas, Elizabeth, Margaret, and Pierce Monroe Best.

He is the son of Daniel Best 1765-1841 and Mary Katherine Rhodes 1774-1850.

Grandson of Jerg Sebastian "Bostian" Bosch and Catharine Elizabeth Hoyle.
