On February 14, 1953 he married Delores Schaefer in Roseau, MN. They raised a family of five children on the farm homesteaded by his father in Deer Township. He worked hard in providing for his family in the following professions: farming, logging, concrete finish work and carpentry, retiring in 1975. Palmer continue to live on the family farm. He served his community as Clerk of Deer Township for over 40 years.
Palmer was 86 years old when he died on January 5, 2000 in the Roseau Area Hospital. Palmer is survived by his wife Delores; three sons Paul (Vicki) of Tulsa, OK, Kevin (Tami) of St. Paul and Dave (Angela) of Peoria, AZ; two daughters Ann (Mike) Patenaude of Dayton, Ohio and Kristi Haugtvedt of Strathcona; 8 grandchildren, one sister Minnie (Walter) Thomas of Thief River Falls; several nieces and nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, four children who died as infants; and five brothers and eight sisters.
Funeral services were held at Bethel Lutheran Church in Greenbush and interment was at the East Bethlehem Cemetery, in Deer Township, Roseau Co., MN.
