Maudie was born in Thompson Township in Robeson County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of Charlie Gaston and Jennie (Herring) Bass.

Maudie married William Hubert Prevatte on September 18, 1927 in Dillon County, South Carolina.

Maudie and Hubert did not have children.

Note: On the back of Hubert and Maudie's headstone is Rembert and Bertha Bass Strickland.

Obituary:
HAMER--Maudie Prevatte, age 84 died Friday, October 6, 1995, at her residence.

Mrs. Prevatte was born in Fairmont, a daughter of Charlie G. Bass and Jennie (Herring) Bass. She was a former grocery store operator and a member of Fairmont First Baptist Church and was the widow of William Hubert Prevatte.

Surviving is a sister Geneva Christenburg.

Funeral service will be at 3:30 p.m., Sunday in Kannady's Funeral Home of Dillon. Burial will be in Fairmont (North Carolina) Cemetery.

Kannady's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers: John F. Floyd, Roy Lee Davis, Lloyd Willoughby, James O. Perry, Dick Pully, Jay Capps.

Preachers: Rev. William "Bill" Calhoun, Rev. John Cave, Dr. Thomas Rich, Rev. Robert Maclin.

Maudie's residence at the time of her death was at her sister Geneva Bass Christenburg's residence in Hamer, S.C.

Maudie and her husband Hubert farmed for many years. Their farm was located outside of Fairmont, North Carolina and after selling their farm they purchased a house and store in the town of Fairmont. Their store was known as Prevatte's Grocery. Their house was only a few blocks from their store and her Cousin Ellen Bass's house was across the street from their house. Maudie's cousin Ellen's father Hardie Bass and Maudie's grandfather Giles Bass were brothers.

In 1989 after Maudie had a stroke, she went to live with her sister Geneva Bass Christenburg. Geneva took care of Maudie until Maudie's death in 1995. The last couple of years Maudie was confined to her bed.
