Ness City -- Edmund Hertel, 80, auto and tractor mechanic, died Friday, Feb. 2, 1996 at Ness County Hospital, Ness City. He was born Dec. 12, 1915 at Munjor to Alexander and Margaret (Pfannenstiel) Hertel.

He married Florence Droste Aug. 2, 1939 at Dodge City.

He was a mechanic and resident of Ness City since 1929. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and American Legion, all of Ness City, VFW, Ranson, and Sunflower Polka Club.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; three sons, Kenneth E., Wichita, Gerald J., Midland, Texas, and Wayne T., Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter, Lynette Marie Gibson, Belpre; three brothers, Edwin and Alfred, both of Dodge City, and Wilfred, Ness City; four sisters, Martina Burkhart, Spearville, Regina Dome, Dodge City, Mary Dinkel, Victoria, and Agnes Beckerdite, Kingsdown; and eight grand- children and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Marvin Reif and Father Matthew Le officating; burial in the church cemetery. A parish vigil will be at 7 p.m. today at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City. Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 8 to 10 a.m. Monday at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to the church cemetery or to Sacred Heart School.
