NESS CITY - Wilfred Joseph Hertel, 71, died Sept. 27,1999, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita. He was born Aug. 18, 1928, at Munjor, thee son of Alex and Margaret Pfannenstlel Hertel.

A longtime Ness County resident, he was a farmer. He belonged to Sacred Heart Church and Knights of Columbus, both at Ness City.

On March 26, 1951, he married Helen Dechant at Ness City.

Survivors include five sons, David, Pearl, Miss., Jim, Bazine, Keith, Ness City, Kevin, Gibbon, Neb., and Craig, Meridian, Miss.; two daughters, Diane VanGilder, Topeka, and Janis Weyer, Wymore, Neb.; a brother, Edwin, Dodge City; four sisters, Martina Burkhart, Spearville, Reglna Dome, Dodge City, Mary Dlnkle, Victoria, and Agnes Beckerdtte, Ktngsdown; and 18 grandchildren.

Parish vigil will be at 7 p.m. today at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ness City. Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Church, Ness City, with Father Gregory LeBlanc presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 8 t o 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Ness City.
