Houston Burns, 85, of Dongola passed away Tuesday at 7:40 a.m. at Union County Hospital in Anna. He was born May 3, 1903 the son of Samuel M. Fanny Belle Sivia Burns. He was married to Wanda Abernathia on May 24, 1921 and she preceded him in death on Dec. 13, 1987. He is survived by six sons, William Burns of Mt. Vernon, Buster Burns of Dongola, Sam Burns of Hometown, Roy Burns of Berwyn, Marshall Burns of Anna, and Jim Burns of Tega Cay, S.C. five daughters, Fran Campbell of Joliet, Virginia McIntyre of Anna, Doris Bullock of Jonesboro, Carita Miller of Cresthill, and Jerre Dover of Little Rock,Ark. 37 grandchildren 43 great grandchildren and 1 sister, Ella Russler of Cape Girardeau, MO. He was preceded in death by a son, Houston Everett Burns, Jr. on Nov. 9, 1939 and by 6 brothers, 1 sister, and 2 half sisters and by 1 grandson. Funeral services for Houston Burns were held Thurs. at 10 a.m at the Crain Funeral Home in Anna with Rev. Taylor Cursey officiating. Internment followed in the Christian Chapel Cemetery.∼Houston Samuel was the son of Samuel Moody Burns and Fanny Bell Lentz Sivia Burns. He was married to Wanda Violet Abernathie Burns and shares a gravestone with her in Christian Chapel Cemetary in Dongola Illinois. They had twelve children.
