Mrs. Wanda Burns, age 83, of Dongola passed away Sunday evening at 11 p.m. at the City Care Center in Anna. She was born April 22, 1904 at Carbondale, the daughter of William d. and Etta Augusta Erwin Abernathie. She was married on May 24, 1921 to Houston Burns. Mrs. Burns was a member of Thebes Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Houston Burns on Dongola, six sons; William Burns of Mr. Vernon, Buster Burns of Dongola, Sam Burns of Hometown, Roy Burns of Berwyn, Marshall Burns of Anna, and Jim Burns of Tega Cay, S.C., five daughters; Fran Campbell of Joliet, Virginia McIntyre of Margate, Fla., Doris Bullock of Jonesboro, Carita Miller of Cresthill, and Jerre Dover of Little Rock, Ark., 38 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Houston Everett Burns, Jr. on Nov. 9, 1939, by a sister, Mary Wilson, a brother, Hadley Avernathie, a half brother, Clifford Davis, and four half sisters, Hazel Davis, Mildred McGill, Clora Coffman and Martha Gearing. Funeral services for Mrs. Wanda Burns were held Wed. at 10 a.m. at the Crain Funeral Home in Dongola with Dr. Charles Owen officiating. Internment was made in the Christian Chapel Cemetery.
