He was born in Lafayette on June 3, 1921 to the late Maurice Allen and Louisa Adeline Taylor Bowyer. On July 3, 1942, he married Rosella "Marie" Van Horn in Lafayette, and she survives.
Surviving with his wife are three sons, James "Joe" Bowyer (wife: Jan) of Mulberry, Richard A. Bowyer (wife: Donna) of Mt. Washington, Ky. and Donald L. Bowyer (wife: Julie) of Escondido, California; a sister, Rosemary Johnson of Lafayette; a brother, Frank Bowyer (wife: June) of Battle Ground; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dennis N. Bowyer; 4 sisters, Ann Birch, Mildred Haughn, Helen Carter and Myrtle Lashbrook and 1 brother, William "Bill" Bowyer.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. His forces pursued German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, the "Desert Fox," in North Africa and then occupied Italy as Mussolini was overthrown.
