Rites Held For Alden Pioneer
Funeral for Mrs. Mary Schmidt, 85, Carnegie, who died last Tuesday in a hospital here, were at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Alden Community Church. Rev. Bob Williams, pastor of the Carnegie Church of the Nazarene, officiated. Burial was in Alden Cemetery under direction of Fort Cobb Funeral Home.
Mrs. Schmidt was born Oct. 18, 1892 in Moundridge, Kan. and came to Pauls Valley as a young girl. She was married to Henry Jacob Schmidt in May, 1909 at the Neola School. He died in 1973. Mrs. Schmidt was a member of the Greenfield Mennonite Church and the Royal Neighbors of America.
Survivors include two sons, Edward H., of Weatherford, and John J. of Carnegie; a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Dietrich of Yukon; a brother, Dan Jantz, Oklahoma City' and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Foglestrom, Casmere, Wash.; Mrs. Kate Unruh, Meno, Okla.; and Mrs. Philbeana Janz, Inola; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Donald, in 1946.
