He was born in Armour, S.D., February 16, 1894, to Joseph and Elizabeth Verwolf. He attended schools in South Dakota, Montana, and Washington. He married Jennie VanDenBerg in Armour on December 2, 1915. She preceded him in death in 1988. He farmed outside of Manhattan for many years. He also worked at the Trident cement plant for several years.
He was a member of the Methodist Church, a long time member of the Odd Fellows, IOOF Lodge, and the Farmers Union. He enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include six daughters, Elizabeth DeVolve of Spokane, Cora Burbank of Quartzite, Ariz., Ruby Kolberg of Toston, Jean Simpson of Tumwater, Wash., and Lola Page and Jennie Miles, both of Pony; three sisters, Jane DeBoer of Corsica, S.D., Bertha Gray of Palo Alto, Calif., and Elizabeth Randall of Belgrade; 18 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Connors Mortuary in Townsend. Burial will be in the Deep Creek Cemetery.
