Joe (Joris in Dutch) Verwolf, 84, died this morning at his home. Born in the tiny riverdike village of Tienhoven, Holland he had come to the United States when he was 12 years old. (Emigrated in May/June 1882 with his parents and brother Pieter "Peter" from Ameide, Zuid-Holland, Netherlands). He had farmed in the Yakima Valley in the early 1900's and then had moved to Montana. In 1943 he had returned to Yakima to retire. Mrs. Verwolf died December 27, 1953.

He is survived by four sons, P.M. Verwolf of Sandpoint, Ida., Tom and Henry Verwolf of Manhattan, Mont., and Nick Verwolf of Bozeman, Mont.; six daughters, Mrs. Jane DeBoer of Corsica, S.D., Mrs. Lena Ross of Chelan, Mrs. Kate VanDiest of Paramount, Calif., Mrs. Bertha Huff of Palo Alto, Calif., Mrs. Jessie Foster and Mrs. Elizabeth Randall, both of Selah; 61 grandchildren, 124 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:30 p.m. in Shaw & Sons Chapel with the Rev. Ivan Bell officiating. Burial will be in Terrace Heights Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be P.M. Verwolf, Tom Verwolf, Henry Verwolf, Nick Verwolf, Jake Meyer and Richard Meyer.

Note: Joe was the first of two sons born to Peter and Mary (VandenBerg) Verwolf. Joe was named for his grandfather Joris Verwolf (1825-1896).
