Madeline Garrett Steagall, 92, a resident of the Beverly Health Care Center and formerly of Oakdale Street, Martinsville, died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
Born Oct. 25, 1911, in Henry County, she was a daughter of the late James Samuel Garrett and Rosa Belle Hundley Garrett. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Ralph Milton Stegall and Everett J. Steagall.
She worked as credit manager of Sears & Roebuck until retiring. A charter member of Credit Professional International, she had held various offices within the organization and was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Martinsville for more than 60 years.
Surviving are two sons, E.J. Steagall of Richmond and James Steagall of Rome, N.Y.; three sisters, Ruby Garrett, Clara Eggleston and Pearl Harris, all of Axton; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services chapel with the Rev. John T. Fulcher officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
