Leonard Samuel Garrett, 73, of 408 Rives Road , Martinsville, died late Thursday night at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.

Born in the Carlisle community of Henry County, he had lived most of his life in Martinsville and worked for Martinsville Fire and Police Department before World War II. For more than 40 years he owned and operated a dry cleaning business, retiring from Ace Cleaners.

Following his retirement, Garrett worked as a security guard at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County and was pool manager at the Elks Club. He was a member of First Baptist Church Class 19, a member and chairman of the Board of Trustees of Elks PBOE Lodge No. 1752, past president of the Blue Ridge Yacht Club, and a charter member of the Martinsville Volunteer Fire Department.

A son of the late James Samuel Garrett and Rosa Hundley Garrett, he was born Feb 13, 1910.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 AM Saturday at McKee Funeral Home Chapel by Drs. James E. Baucom and Chevis F. Horne. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
